EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THOMAS GOLD

HypeTune.com: How did you start producing/djing?

Thomas GoldI started DJing a couple of years ago, playing records at my friends’ parties. I remember when I had my first residencies in some smaller clubs, I had to play different kinds of music, which was not really my thing as I’m totally into house! But it was very helpful to learn how a crowd reacts to different tracks and how to interact with them. At around the same time I did my first steps in music production, I had a low budget setup of gear but it was good for getting into it!

With the further development of my own music production skills, my way of DJing also evolved more towards electronic and especially house music. I had a couple of releases on smaller labels and I worked a lot to improve myself. Actually, for me, all really kicked off in 2010 when I got picked by Toolroom, Phazing, and Size!

HypeTune.com: Who were/are your major influences?

Thomas Gold:  There are many things I get my ideas from. It can be the house music itself which I’ve always loved. I listen a lot to other producers’ tracks or DJs’  sets, when I’m at home, when I go out to clubs or bars with friends, or while I’m travelling.

Sometimes it’s just about a special single sound when I dig deep into my sample libraries or I just sit there and play with some of my synthesizers in the studio.

In general, my inspiration can literally come from anywhere, it could also be just a special situation or a vibe – one of the places for that is Ibiza! I love to hang out in the clubs there, you can get so much energy from the island! :-)

HypeTune.com: You’ve played shows all around the world.  What is your favorite venue/event to play at? Which nation has the best fans?

Thomas GoldI don’t have a favorite single venue -  my highlights this year have been EDC in Vegas, Creamfields, my gig with Axwell in NYC, the Size Matters parties I played in NYC & Miami with Steve Angello and Masquerade Motel with SHM in Ibiza! So countrywise I would say it’s the US! There is so much energy in the crowds when I play my sets and the feedback is amazing. I did some great festivals and club shows and it is just pure fun to play for the people! But also the festivals in Europe have been great! Everybody is so into the music, people get so excited and this is what music is all about – having fun, enjoying life! So I´d love to play everywhere, it´s about the diversity as well! And I love my fans from whereever they are and it´s great to stay in touch with them via Facebook and Twitter even when I´m not travelling or not playing in their country!

HypeTune.com: How would you characterize your style of music?

Thomas GoldI would describe my style as progressive house with a lot of melodic influences, I love those big riffs and chord stabs! And it’s rocking, banging – energetic…

HypeTune.com: Who has been your favorite person to collaborate with?  If you could work with anyone else in the industry, who would it be?

Thomas GoldRemixwise it was the collab on ‘Blow Up’ which I did together with Axwell end of 2010; he’s one of my biggest producer idols and it was exciting to work with him, I could learn so much!

Regarding collab productions, it was when I did ‘Alive’ together with Dirty South this summer; we had some absolutely great days in his L.A. studio!

HypeTune.com: Are you currently working on and/or planning to work on any new projects in the near future?

Thomas GoldYes!! I’m about to finish my next own track which will be out on Axtone Records; I fininshed a track together with Kim Fai (which will be out on Size) and I’m working on 2 other exciting collabs at the moment. Just be prepared…
