I have officially been liberated and genuinely mind-blown after hearing this group for the first time. Sidewalk Chalk pushes the boundaries of jazz and hip hop, taking their music to a whole new level. First things first, they’re actual musicians! It’s so relieving to see a live performance with an actual horn section and a real keyboard as opposed to a recording of artificial instruments and a DJ just doing his thing on stage. I have to give a shout-out to their MC Rico Sisney, because the dude straight up kills it. His rhymes are as noble as the Pope and as sexy as Mila Kunis. If that description doesn’t have you even semi-curious you need to google search Mila Kunis, because she is HOT.
“Despite their average age of less than 25, the 8-piece band has experience beyond their years. Be it as music director for Brother Ali, singing for the Armed Forces in Europe, or touring with funk/soul outfit Jazzanova, every member of the group is in high demand in Chicago and abroad. 2009 saw the group release the Snacktime EP and embark on the Freida Hites Tour. One year later, the Chicago Reader named Sidewalk Chalk the ‘Best Hip-Hop Act in Chicago’” (- Sidewalk Chalk)”
Check out this live performance of their original tune ”Free.” It kicks in around 50 seconds if you don’t feel like waiting.
